US futures were slightly lower Monday morning as trade talks between U.S. and China kick off. Investors are hopeful that they will be able to strike a deal but if they can’t by the end of the truce deal on March 1, President Trump stated he would raise the 10% tariff up to 25% on $200 billion in Chinese goods.

Investors have blamed China’s economic slowdown on the tariffs which has affected major companies including Apple who just last week lowered revenue guidance for the first time in 15 years.

European Markets

European markets opened the Monday trading session lower as U.K. lawmakers make there way back from holiday to begin talks over how they will leave Europe in March.
