Wall Street poised to open positive
Early cues from U.S. stock index futures show that Wall Street might be opening positive on Tuesday as market players shrug off fears of further escalation of tensions between Washington and Tehran.
On Monday, U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper acknowledged that American troops would not breach the laws of armed conflict by attacking cultural sites in Iran if the conflict between the two sides worsens.
President Donald Trump had earlier threatened to target Iran’s cultural sites if the country retaliates for the killing of Soleimani. The Pentagon has also ruled out military attacks on Iranian cultural heritage.
As of 5:00 am ET, the blue-chip Dow futures were gaining 38 points, or 0.13% to 28,680. The S&P 500 futures were adding 4.88 points, or 0.15% to 3,248.38 while the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 futures were up 29.50 points, or 0.33% to 8,877.
Tesla kicks off Model 3 customer deliveries in China; stock hits $458
Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) started delivering Model 3 sedans built at its Shanghai plant to Chinese customers on Tuesday in ceremony attended by CEO Elon Musk, according to Bloomberg.
The electric automaker slashed the starting price of China-made Model 3 cars by 9% in order to match local rivals such Xpeng Motors and as NIO Inc.
“The demand for our locally-built model 3 is very good. We are confident about selling all vehicles manufactured in this factory,” Allan Wang, general manager of Tesla China, said last week.
Tesla shares ended the regular trading session on Monday with a gain of 1.93% to $451.54 apiece, raising the company’s market capitalization to $81.4 billion. The stock extended the gains in premarket hours Tuesday to trade at $458.65 a share.
AMD announces Radeon RX 5600 XT, starts at $279
AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) officially introduced Radeon RX 5600 XT GPUs for the “ultimate 1080p gaming” at CES 2020 on Monday. The gaming graphics card packs 2304 cores and 6GB of GDDR6 at 12Gbps on a 192-bit memory bus.
It’s designed to operate with a boost clock of 1560 MHz and a game clock of 1375 MHz. AMD said the GPU will be released on Jan. 21 at a starting price of $279.
On average, the Radeon RX 5600 XT is up to 55% faster than Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA)’s GeForce GTX 1060 6GB according to AMD’s internal tests.
Shares of AMD were up 1.05% to $48.90 in premarket trading Tuesday, while those of Nvidia were up less than a percent to $238.11.
