Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ: NVDA) on Tuesday announced a line of updated gaming-focused “Super” graphics cards that will retail at the same price points as the current GeForce RTC 2060, 2070, and 2080 cards.
The Santa Clara, California-based company said GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER, GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER, and GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER graphics cards offer uncompromised combination of cutting-edge features and leading performance. They also deliver best power efficiency, and the fastest gaming performance of any gaming card in their class.
The cards deliver real time ray tracing that lets computers render realistic-looking shading and lighting. RTX 2080 Super will give gamers superior memory speed of 15.5Gbps over non-Super versions’ 14Gbps, while the RTX 2060 Super offers 8GB of memory instead of just 6GB. The tech giant expects the RTX 2070 Super and RTX 2080 Super to replace the current non-Super editions of those tiers over time.
“The ecosystem driving real-time ray tracing is immense — tens of millions of GPUs, industry standard APIs, leading game engines and an all-star roster of game franchises,” said Jeff Fisher, senior vice president of the PC business at NVIDIA.
“This killer lineup of SUPER GPUs delivers even more performance for demanding PC gamers and ensures that they’re prepared for the coming wave of real-time ray tracing blockbusters,” Fisher added.
Nvidia said the RTX 2060 Super and RTX 2070 Super will cost $399 and $499, respectively. The chipmaker will release the RTX 2060 Super and RTX 2070 Super cards on July 9. Meanwhile, RTX 2080 Super card will launch on July 23 and retail for $699.
Nvidia announced its new line of graphics cards several weeks after rival Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMD) announced the Radeon RX 5000-series of gaming chipsets. Lisa Su, AMD chief executive later said that company’s Radeon 5700 XT gaming card would launch in July and cost $499.
Shares of Nvidia have gained more than 22% since the beginning of the year, while those of AMD are up 67%.
