It’s news to some investors and pet owners that there are a range of wearable trackers for dogs and cats. Now Joseph Kaminski and Lori Grunin at CNet are reporting on the Whistle Go wearable from Mars that’s looking to diagnose behavioral problems in your pooch, suggesting that the Whistle Go may be in some ways, an “Apple watch for dogs.”
“The latest version of its trackers, Whistle Go and Whistle Go Explore, move beyond simple location and health tracking,” write Kaminski and Grunin, “to recognize and report patterns that may indicate other types of problems, just as we’re seeing with wearables for humans.”
What else does the Whistle Go do? Apparently, this new form of animal tracker can help to identify “excessive scratching and licking” using a system that can sense the vibrations related to a dog’s habitual actions, and even contrast them.
The Whistle Go is a water-resistant gadget that can go everywhere with your pup – with a 20-day battery life, it’s also longer-lasting in the field between charges. It has features like a flashlight and provides robust dog data
With the right ISP setup, Whistle Go can be useful in a lot of ways. A built-in accelerometer gives feedback that can help your dog stay active, or the Whistle Go can help to track what’s happening with dog walkers when the owner is away.
As for its portability, the Whistle Go weighs in at under an ounce, representing a lot of the utility that has come from Moore’s law over the years as we get smaller and smaller devices and cameras.
“It’s recommended for pets 8 pounds/3.6kg or larger,” write the CNet reviewers, “which means you can use it with an above-average size cat — if they’ll let you put it on.”
