Vodaphone makes play for increased reach and operations by 2025

New reports suggest European telecom operator Vodafone is planning to increase its workforce by 7000 engineers within the next four years.

By 2025, Reuters reports, the company hopes to have used a variety approaches from in-house retainment to recruiting to reach this benchmark in promoting its “global software brand” and using innovations like the Internet of things, smart networks and cybersecurity applications to build a better network.

“Chief Technology Officer Johan Wibergh said Vodafone was focusing on digital services to help drive revenue growth in a challenging environment for core connectivity,” writes an unnamed Reuters author.

Broadening its operations in Europe and Africa will make Vodafone more of a global player in its industry.

Numbers from sources like Statistica also show that Europe is tackling its broadband problem – although there is an increase in the number of households across the European Union with good Internet access, there are also major discrepancies, for example, 97% in the Netherlands and Iceland and 95% in Germany, compared to 73% in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

In terms of equity value and growth, Subhasree Kar at stocknews writes that although Vodafone shows a lot of potential, it is still being overshadowed by AT&T, at least for the moment.

“T’s revenues and EBITDA have grown at CAGRs of 3.6% and 2.7%, respectively, over the past three years,” Kar writes. “The company’s EPS is expected to grow 3.1% in the current year. Furthermore, its EPS is expected to grow 2.7% per annum over the next five years. In comparison, VOD’s revenues and EBITDA grew at CAGRs of negative 2% and 7.5%, respectively, over the past three years. The company’s EPS is expected to grow 10.4% in its current fiscal year. Also, VOD’s EPS is expected to grow 72.2% per annum over the next five years … Both T and VOD should benefit significantly from the growing telecom market, given their global presence.”

Keep an eye on what Vodafone is doing in Europe if you have telecom-related tech stock interests.
